Tour The Farm
We have been fortunate to receive several grants that will support The Farm’s growth in 2020. Greater Washington County Food Bank was honored to receive a $190,000 PA Department of Community & Economic Development Neighborhood Assistance Program grant provided with funding by our generous partners, UPMC Health Plan, Washington Financial Bank, and Northwest Savings Bank, in addition to funding provided through the John Thompson Memorial Fund. This grant will enable GWCFB to install the first phase of a 236kW solar array, completely off-setting our current energy use and allowing for future growth as well. Not only will the solar array make the food bank more financially sustainable through eliminating our electric bill, but it will also have a significant environmental impact, the equivalent of planting 7,500 trees each year, or removing 35 cars from the road annually.
As we work to expand our farm production, we are grateful for a generous $25,000 grant from PNC Foundation that will enable us to efficiently grow produce on a larger scale. The grant is designated towards the purchase of equipment needed to employ current best practices in sustainable specialty crop production, supporting our goals of providing both fresh produce and quality agriculture education to the community.
