Greater Washington County Food Bank Confirms Locations and Dates for Truck to Trunk Drive Thru Distribution Sites

Expecting as much as a 200% or greater increase in food need for Washington County, Greater Washington Community Food Bank has confirmed sites for April distributions, which will transition to the Truck to Trunk drive-thru delivery model. Individuals and Families that regularly receive food from the Food Bank will find their location below. Individuals and Families who recently signed up will receive contact from GWCFB staff to confirm their location to attend. Greater Washington County Food Bank needs community support in the form of donations and volunteers so that it can assure no one who needs food will go without it.

The Truck to Trunk model, which was piloted in 2019, requires little to no person-to-person contact and eliminates the need for vulnerable populations to gather. Staff and volunteers of the Food Bank will load boxes directly from their Food Bank trucks into the client’s trunk, so they don’t even have to step out of their vehicle. At the current time, this is the safest model for both Food Bank staff and Clients. “If you, or someone you know, needs food, we can get it to you, near your home, in a way that does not risk anyone’s health,” reiterated Lorraine Johnson, Pantry Liaison. “This is what we want people in need, who are vulnerable, to know. There is a safe way to get food and supplies.” The Food Bank will use its Facebook page and Website as tools to keep those it serves up to date, as well as sending emails. Anyone who wants to stay informed should make sure they follow those and sign up to receive emails on the website (www.gwcfb.org).

Greater Washington County Food Bank’s website has an online form that allows people who find themselves unemployed with no income to apply for emergency food assistance. It also has an online form that lets people designate a proxy to pick up their food for them. For those who do not need emergency food, and can help those who do, there are a couple of ways to help. Healthy people who have not had contact with a Covid-19 patient can volunteer to help pack boxes and distribute them. Cash donations, as well as donations of bulk food and health and beauty supplies are, and will continue to be, in great need. Those items include:

  • Canned fruits

  • Canned vegetables

  • Canned sauces (spaghetti sauce, etc.)

  • Canned meat (chicken, etc.)

  • Pasta

  • Dry product (crackers, stuffing, etc.)

  • Snacks (granola bars, sweet treats, etc.)

  • Cereal boxes

  • Peanut Butter

  • Drinks (water, juices, pop, etc.)

  • Health and Beauty (soap, cold medicine, toiletries, etc.)

MENASHA of Ruffs Dale, PA has donated 7,000 boxes for use for April distributions.
